Pillar Of Light Over New York City

A bizarre pillar of light has recently been photographed over New York City and doing the rounds on social media. The ‘unedited’ photo shows a shaft of light with sharp edges beaming down onto the skyscrapers. I have to admit it is a very eye-catching image. At first I presumed photoshop, but other angles and video footage has since emerged online which corroborate the phenomenon.

Of course, this could easily be a natural weather effect, but more and more pillars of light seem to be appearing around the world, leading some to think that they may be a sign from extra-terrestrial life.

Many witnesses of this phenomenon all have very similar descriptions. They generally appear to be red in colour and it is not obvious if they are emitting from the ground or the sky.
